CableTroll 2440 is designed for mounting in the front panel of Ring Main Units and on single core cables. The indicator detects and indicates Earth Faults and short circuits in underground cable networks.

Functional description

CableTroll 2440 is a fault passage indicator (FPI) for application in radial or open ring cable network, for installation into RMU's with single core cables where sensors can be mounted in a safe area, one sensor mounted on each conducting phase cable.

All indicators located between the feeding transformer and the fault location will indicate the passage of the fault current and the fault is easily located.

Trip level for earth fault detection is set by the user in 4 different levels in a range from 20-160 [A] and for short-circuit 4 levels from 250-1000 [A].

In addition timer reset can be programmed to automaticly reset after 2 or 4 hours (other values are software programmable) and fault current duration can be set from 40 to 300 [ms].

 

Application:

Earth fault and short circuit fault indication for single phase underground cables in medium voltage networks 6-36 [kV].

Grounding system:

Isolated-, resistor-, and solidly grounded networks.

Sensors:

3 x magnetic pick up sensors (Open core). Equipped with a 3 m 0.75 [mm²] cable. Sensors are to be grounded with a separate wire. Cable ties to fix sensors on MV- phase cables are included.

Fault detection:

Earth fault, Io: 20, 40, 80 or 160 [A]
Short circuit I>>: 250, 500, 750 or 1000 [A]
Duration: 40, 100, 200 or 300 [ms]

Inrush blocking ON / OFF:

If ON, 5 sec blocking after energising cable.

CB-Trip criteria ON / OFF:

If ON, circuit breaker must trip the cable within 5 sec. after fault detection.

Reset:

Auto:
By return of voltage; Cap. testpoint or LV (12-250 VAC) or load current > 10% of I>>setting *
*) if I >> = 500[A]; Load current for autoreset and inrush blocking must be > 50 [A]

By timer, 2 or 4 hours (other values are software programmable).

Manual: Pushbutton on front panel.

Indications:

1 LED (Red) for earth faults / short circuit indication, f=0.5 [Hz].
1 LED (Green) for voltage / current presence indication.
1 LED (Yellow) for "low battery" indication, f= 1/15 [Hz].

Output for external indication; LED-2, 3.6[V], max 18[mA] (limited by a 100[Ω] resistor). Flashing frequency: 0.5 [Hz], duty cycle; 2.5%.

Remote indication:

Two Normally Open contacts (30[W] @ 60[V] / 0.5[A] DC):
1: Earth fault / short circuit fault, closed until RESET.
2: "Low battery warning", closing if less than 20% remains of total battery capacity. (Active until battery is replaced).

Power supply:

1 Lithium Cell 3.6 [V], 3.8 [Ah] included.
>1500 hours of flashing with ext indication LED-2
